Principal of William Knibb High dies

William Knibb High School has lost its principal, Alcia Morgan-Bromfield who died last Friday. Morgan-Bromfield, who was a student at William Knibb High from 1981 to 1986, served as principal from May 1, 2016 to the time that she lost her battle with cancer.

"She lived a life which is a great testimony of how we should live," Marlon Reid, a teacher at the school said yesterday as students and staff members huddled to remember the life-long educator.

Inspirational leader

Ronald Beckford said Morgan-Bromfield had a radiant personality, and "taught all of us who came in contact with her not to give up without a fight."

"My principal and friend was a teacher, a mother, an inspirational leader, who was fearless and strong and wanted to enjoy life," he said.

Nastacia Linton, a Grade 13 student, fought to hold back tears as she reflected on Morgan- Bromfield's life.

"My principal was not a weak heart. She fought long and hard for her two daughters and us, students. I will live on remembering the virtues she instilled in us. 'Have a vision, have social graces, strive for academic excellence and have civic pride'. You can still hear her saying: 'Though my body may be broken, I am not broken so don't pity me'. She spoke always in the continuous tense and brought inspiration purposefully to all," the student said.

Maxine Headlam, retired regional director at the Ministry of Education, told WESTERN STAR that Morgan-Bromfield's work ethic was second to none.

"Twice during her illness, I visited her at home. With needles strung up in her arm, she had CXC papers on her bed marking. I asked her why are you doing this to yourself. Her response was: 'I signed a contract, gave a commitment and I intend to fulfill it.' There are not many who are made like Alcia," she said.
