Please help my daughter Mr MP - Father of girl shot in head seeks overseas treatment

Delroy Barrett, father of the schoolgirl who was shot and injured last September, is imploring his Member of Parliament, Dr Peter Phillips, and other authorities to intervene in obtaining a medical report from the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

He stated that the document is essential to his daughter seeking medical treatment overseas, but he is frustrated by the length of time that is taking.

"My daughter is very sick and her condition is deteriorating and I can't sit here and watch her like that. Her nostrils are still running and sweaty and she can't hear out of her left ear. She can barely speak and all mi need is the medical report so she can go overseas for treatment and mi a wait weeks now. Mi just a beg the hospital to just speed it up and release the document. Mi really want the MP to see what him can do for us," he said.

Shot twice

The then 11-year-old was shot on Waltham Park Road on September 6, as she headed home from school. She was shot twice, once below the left ear and also above the right eye.

The youngster was discharged from hospital a few months later but was readmitted after fluid began draining from her nostrils.

In addition to a cracked skull, Barrett said there are still fragments from the bullet inside her skull.

After a medical procedure to stop the fluid drain failed, the distraught father said he refused to let the medical team repeat the operation, and instead opted for his daughter to receive treatment at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.

While expressing gratitude for the treatment that Bustamante staff has applied, he wants his daughter's care to progress.

"The Canada hospital had requested some documents and they got everything except the medical report and all mi a ask for it, mi can't get it. I don't know what's going on but she is just there every day and dem a give her the same medication like the ones that they had given her when she was discharged and at home," he said. "I want her to get well so she can go back to school because she has missed out a whole lot."
