Man smashes motorist’s window on highway

September 24, 2020

"Me feel like I was in a movie when me hear the smash, a God himself save me," a traumatised Shadaye Gabbidon told THE STAR.

Gabbidons's car window was smashed by a man who she believes is of unsound mind along the Sir Florizel Glasspole Highway on Sunday.

"I could have crashed and damaged myself or something if I didn't hold my composure. It was a highway and I had to make a sudden step on my brake so I could have ran into a car or maybe the sidewalk," she said. "Based on my observations, the man who threw the stone seems mad and I don't think they are doing enough to get them off the streets. I can remember a couple years ago my mom was walking and a mad man slapped her in the head so you never know what they might do to persons." Gabbidon also suffered minor injuries.

Splinters in my back

"There was numerous pieces of glass in my foot bottom because I don't wear slippers when I drive and there were splinters in my back. Luckily, it wasn't anything detrimental where I had to go to the hospital," she said. Gabbidon said that after she pulled over, she realised that four other vehicles were damaged.

"It seems that he was just smashing glasses but those persons seem like they just took it and went away," she said. "I waited until the police came and took him to Bellevue. They said they are gonna run a scan on him to find out if he is mad and if he isn't, the matter will be taken to court. I'm just waiting to hear back from them because I fixed the window from my pocket."

Gabbidon, who resides in Harbour View, told THE STAR that she is scared that something similar might happen.

"I don't think mad men should be on highways or anywhere close to a place that has heavy traffic that an accident can happen. I have to drive there and mad men are out there from time to time and it is not safe at all," she said. "Persons should report these cases because mad men are attacking civilians. It is also important that persons be extra careful and try to avoid them when on the road."

The Rockfort police have confirmed the incident and said they have been receiving multiple reports about stone attacks along the highway.

The officers are therefore urging motorists to be vigilant and said they have been carrying out regular patrols in the area.
