When Antoinette Chambers rushed to the six-bedroom dwelling she called home in Discovery Bay, St Ann on Friday October 2, she instantly broke down in tears upon realising that it was engulfed in flames.

"When me come round and see the fire, all me ask for my kids and them tell me that they are at my mother's house and all I could do is stand up and cry and put me hand pon me head because me couldn't believe," Chambers told THE STAR. "I wasn't there at the time of the fire. I just get a phone call that the house is on fire." There has been no official word on the cause of the fire.

Chambers, 28, has three children ages six, five and three, and is pregnant. She said she lost everything except "the suit of clothes on my back".

"But what I mainly need is a tablet for the kids to do them schoolwork, because the one that they had and a phone burn up. So right now I don't know what is gonna happen," she said.

Hard not being around the kids

Chambers said that she is currently staying with a sister while the children are with their grandmother.

"It is hard not being around the kids, especially at night time, because I usually sleep with them. Me feel lonely," said Chambers.

While preparing to welcome a new member to the family soon, she is in dire need of a new place to call home.

"Me pregnant now too, so it is even harder for me. All type of things a go through me mind but me try my best not to put it on my head because me have high blood pressure," she told THE STAR. Her aim is to now erect a place on a piece of land that was given to her by a friend.

"Me get a piece of land space but me just want the help to put up the house, even if it is a one bedroom, because me desperate," she said. "We don't get any donations as yet but I know God will work something out and me just a wait on the police report too, because I want to bring it to like Red Cross and other places to get little help."

Chambers is hoping to have somewhere before the year ends.

"Me nah really pressure nobody, because things hard for all of us right now. But me just want some help for the children especially," she said.
