Taxi driver Hector Mohen reportedly died on the spot when this Probox in which he was travelling was involved in a three-vehicle collision on the Chapelton main road.

A taxi driver is dead and several people injured following two separate motor vehicle crashes in Clarendon yesterday.

The first incident happened on the Chapelton main road moments after 3 p.m, where three vehicles, including the Clarendon College school bus, collided. District Officer Stanley Bailey of the May Pen Fire Station said the driver of the school bus had to be cut from the vehicle.

The mother of the deceased taxi driver, who has been identified as Hector Mohen, was overcome with grief on the scene. A family friend who gave her name as Diane shared that the grief is compounded by the fact that Mohen, who plied the May Pen to Chapelton route, was a single father to a two-year-old son. The child's mother predeceased him.

She added that Mohen, who had recently resumed his services as a taxi driver after an accident, was known to be a "good driver".

"He had an accident recently where his car burned up, so him just get back this [car]. Me know him as a very good driver, so it was very surprising to me 'cause mi hear seh a bad drive him get," Diane shared.

Another three-vehicle accident occurred in the vicinity of Cherry Tree Lane on the Bustamante Highway around 4:30 p.m. No fatalities have been reported. THE STAR understands that passengers in a taxi sustained serious injuries and were taken to the May Pen Hospital.

Uphell Purcell, councillor for the York Town Division of which Cherry Tree is a part, said he is imploring motorists to exercise caution on the roads.

"That piece of road is not a bad piece of road and I believe this accident could have been avoided. When accidents happen, it really affects people who are not in the accident. Accidents also affect your family and children," he added.
