Street sweeper murdered
A Kingston woman is now left to raise her children on her own, after her spouse Leecroft Dunigan was killed last month.
Jacqueline said that he was shot and killed and his throat slashed at the intersection of East and North streets as he carried out his street-sweeping duties in the early morning.
"It was a job him love. Him use to come out early in the morning but on Thursdays him usually go out a bit earlier because after him done sweep, him would do a next little job where him raise a little money. Inna mi bed mi deh and a police lady come knock mi up and say she recognise his face and when mi go mi see say a him fi real," she said.
Jacqueline said she had to seek medical attention and the children have been receiving counselling as they are all finding it difficult to come to terms with his death.
"The doctor say mi nerves mash up and that mi must try calm down. Mi really a try do that, but sometimes mi pressure get high especially when mi see say a mi alone with the children. Him did really helpful and him love him children dem. Him used to help mi wash and cook for dem and him did a try save up so him could open back we little stall," she said.
It hard on me right now
Jacqueline said she is unaware of Dunigan, 45, having any enemies. She is now hoping for some kindness from persons to survive.
"It hard on me right now and the children dem fi go school and I don't know how I am going to manage. The sweeping work I get pay fortnight but is not much because is little over a $1,000 a day. The other day a lady give me some flour and likkle rice and a it mi a gwan use until mi get di little change. Mi can't believe him just gone suh," she said. "Mi just want little help to start back a stall and some food for the kids. Clothes and dem tings deh is vanity. So as long as dem have food to eat and dem have something dem can live off, mi will be okay."
