Rastaman murdered months after home was torched

After his house was destroyed by arsonists last year in King Weston, Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew, Omar Grey fled the area to live with his female companion in nearby Tavern Gully.

But Grey was killed yesterday, the victim of gunmen's bullets. According to police reports, about 11:35 a.m., Grey was walking along a dirt path when he was pounced upon by gunmen who shot him several times. An injured Grey managed to run home before collapsing. He was pronounced dead at the Kingston Public Hospital.

A police source told the news team that Grey, who is in his 50s, was known to have had frequent arguments with other persons. As detectives processed the crime scene, a man who claimed that he knew the deceased described him as a 'good yute'.

"Him always a boil medicine for me. Mi did a hear like him and man over King Weston have tings. After dem burn down him house him move. Him and nobody in here suh no have nothing, so mi know anno bout ya man do it. Bwoy mi feel it fi di Rasta, mi nah lie," the man said. Another resident said she was startled when she heard the explosions, as Tavern Gully is a very peaceful community.

"Him all run out a him slippers. Mi frighten when the hear the 'boom boom' sound. Dem tings here no gwaan a dem side here. I don't know anything about him except him come live with him wife little over a month ago. The poor woman stress out and frighten so till. Is the police woman have to be consoling her," she said.
