St Vincent police lay second murder charge against man in prison awaiting trial
KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC - Police have laid a second murder charge against a 23-year-old man, who is in prison awaiting a preliminary inquiry into the first homicide matter against him.
Lemar Isaacs, aka Chak, a labourer, appeared before Chief Magistrate Colin John on Monday charged with the September 9, 2023 murder of 31-year-old vendor, Mark Williams.
Williams died at Milton Cato Memorial Hospital after being shot by a masked assailant. Police said then that Williams was at a shop, when a masked man approached him with a gun and fired shots at him. Williams received several shots to the abdomen and was rushed to the hospital where he later died.
Isaacs was not allowed to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded into custody until the next hearing on March 24.
Isaacs is also before the courts on a murder charge following the the June 16, 2024 killing of Zeno Lee, aka Sarge, a 33-year-old businessman.
Issacs also faces attempted murder and grievous bodily harm charges stemming from the same shooting in which Lee was killed. The shooting took place at a bar, where a gunman entered the bar, accosted the patrons, and opened fire.
Enrique King sustained gunshot wounds to his right chest and his right arm, while Ronald Millington sustained a broken leg while fleeing the scene. Millington was later shot and killed on December 6 last year.
Further, Isaacs, along with five other accused - Erasto Dasilva, 33, Esroy Jeffers, 28, Rakiesha Joseph, 26, Sharome Dopwell and Enrique John, 27, -- were charged with several offences in connection with the alleged robbery at the GECCU office in South Rivers on July 17, 2024.
The murder charge on Monday is the third cold case in which police have brought charges in recent months.
In a press statement on Monday, police said the charge demonstrates their dedication to justice and public safety.
"The RSVGPF extends its gratitude to members of the public who have provided information to assist in this and other investigations. The police encourage anyone with relevant details to come forward, as public cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime," the statement said, adding that "all information will be treated with the strictest confidentiality".
