Woman who insulted cop must do community service

Jannette Cain, the woman who reportedly told a policewoman that she 's**k h**d like dog' was yesterday sentenced to 60 hours of community service when she appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.

Cain, 57, who was remanded in custody on Tuesday, apologised for her behaviour before Chief Parish Judge Chester Crooks. Cain was arrested and charged with use of indecent language, uttering a threat and use of abusive and calumnious language following her exchange with the cop on the court's grounds. Cain had reportedly tried to gain access to a restricted area and was warned by the cop, who she ignored. An argument developed and Cain told the cop 'Guh s**k yuh mada', in the presence of a parish judge who reprimanded her. However, she issued other threats and insults to the cop and was subsequently arrested.

Cain initially pleaded guilty only to the use of indecent language on Tuesday and explained that she visited the premises in search of an attorney. She accused the cop of calling her 'stink'.

When she appeared before Crooks for sentencing, the judge indicated that he would impose fines for the offences but Cain indicated that she had no money.

"Your night spent in custody is punishment enough. I want to you to understand something. The police's job, whether on the road or in here is not an easy job. It's human nature and I don't feel any way about it. I will bear in mind the guilty plea and the night spent in custody. I am going to sentence you to 60 hours of community service on each count and they should run concurrently," Crooks said.

Before she was escorted from the courtroom, the judge reminded her that being courteous to others will help her to go a far way.
