Man charged with farmer’s murder
A 38-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a farmer on Emancipation Day.
Derwin Smith of Crooked River, Clarendon, is scheduled to appear before the court to answer to the murder of 62-year-old Edward Grant, a farmer of the same community.
Reports from the May Pen police are that about midday, Grant left home for his farm and did not return. About 9:30 p.m., his body was found by residents who summoned the police. On their arrival, Grant was seen lying on a dirt track with a wound to his leg. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation was launched and the following day, Smith turned himself in to the Chapelton police. He was charged on the weekend, following a question-and-answer interview. His court date is being finalised
