‘Olive oil and frankincense barely a work again’ - Obeah man says nowadays ghosts are too bad for traditional tools
The olive oil has long been thought of as one of the most important weapons against demonic spirits. However, one obeah man is claiming that the 'anointing oil' is no match for certain ghosts that now roam the land.
Reuben Williams, a dark-art scientist, made the bizarre claim during an interview with THE STAR yesterday.
"Olive oil cannot challenge certain type a demons," said Williams, who claimed that his potions and skill recently brought deliverance for a Christian woman after the holy oil failed to rid her house of ghosts.
In addition to using consecrated olive oil for divine protection, many Jamaicans believe that burning frankincense and myrrh can drive ghosts away. Frankincense was traditionally burned in the temple as an offering to God. Williams, however, said those traditional substance are now hardly useful in keeping evil spirits at bay.
"Olive oil and frankincense barely a work again, you have to come with charcoal and rock sulphur and dem summen deh. Yuh have to double up the strength to fight dem demon yah, because dem get badder with the time," Williams said.
According to the obeah man, the woman sought the assistance of a female pastor, who instructed her to anoint her doors and windows with olive oil. She followed the instructions, but the ghosts refused to go away.
"She use the olive oil, pray and touch the doorknobs and window sills, but yuh see the exact spots whe she put olive oil on the door, one a di duppy dem fling one stone and lick off the doorknob. Right whe di oil deh pon di window, she wake up one morning and see two dead bird. Is like dem start behave worse, stone start fling, and things start break inna di house," Williams said.
He said the woman, realizing that the olive oil was not driving away the ghost, turned to him to solve the problem. Williams said he had to work his magic to get rid of the stubborn ghosts, which he said were making the woman's life a living hell.
"After 3'oclock in the morning, she say she always a hear knocking pon har door, and den it change from knocking to footsteps out a door. After dat she start wake up and find dead bird underneath har window. Is like bird fly and lick up inna di window and bruk dem neck and dead. About three weeks dem tings did a happen to her," Williams said.
"When mi go up a di place where she live and assess the situation, mi see say is a tall, strappin dead man. Him used to live a di yard, but dem run him out before she come live deh, and him upset seh she live there now. Whe him do was round up couple a him duppy fren dem and come torment har. Him did wah have sex with har and dem ting deh, suh him crawb up har leg; so mi have to do a portion of work inna di place and sort out what to sort out," Williams said.
The obeah man said he instructed the woman to kill a goat and sprinkle the blood in her yard to ensure that she is delivered from the ghosts. However, she refused to comply.
"She say she a woman inna har church and didn't want to do that. The blood was to appease the spirit dem so dem stay calm, but she never wah do it. When di tings dem start mash up back, she eventually kill di goat, and tings back to normal," he said.
