Guy’s Hill community leader embraces Governor General’s awards

Lynworth Brown, a justice of the peace (JP) from Guy's Hill, St Catherine, has been honoured for his contribution to the development of his community.

Brown, who is the president of the Springfield Community Club, was among 37 outstanding Jamaicans who were last Thursday bestowed with the Governor-General's Achievement Awards for excelling in academics and leadership, while actively leading change in their communities.

Brown, who became a JP one year ago, said he was humbled by the recognition.

"It is a spirit of national pride, and I am proud of myself and fellow awardees. This is a meaningful achievement, which will strengthen me to continue serving the nation from my little corner," Brown said.

Custos of St Catherine Icilyn Golding said she was please that a JP in the parish is honoured by the governor general for excellence in community development. She said the award is a reflection of Brown's selflessness and dedication to his community.

"He has championed the development of the Guy's Hill community by serving the youth and elderly at the community club," Golding said.

Kerensia Morrison, member of parliament for St Catherine North East, said the award is duly deserve as Brown has proven to be a true servant of his community.

"He is always working to develop his community through educational programmes, health fairs and also workshops, which have been for the benefit of several communities," Morrison said.

Meanwhile, the governor general, in his address, urged the 2023 awardees to keep pushing boundaries and never lose sight of the transformative power that they possess.

"Your experience serves as a reminder that each one of us has the potential to make a difference in the lives of others. We applaud your accomplishments and also invite you to continue on this path," he said.

The ceremony was held under the theme 'Achieving more together in pursuit of excellence'.
