At the far end of a quiet, disorganised row of marble headstones, beneath the generous shade of a plum tree in the cemetery at St Andrew Parish Church, lies the final resting place of Melissa Silvera.

But unlike the graves that flank it, Melissa's is marked not by polished stone or engraved marble. The slab of concrete that crowns her grave is far from smooth or polished. Its surface is rough and uneven, a gray expanse pocked with tiny pits and ridges.

Her name -- MELISSA SILVERA -- is carved deep into the concrete. Uneven hearts are etched into the surface, as if someone, overcome with grief, needed to leave a piece of themselves behind.

'Love always', one message read. 'Love Melly', another read.

Her grave tells a story--one of raw loss, of a life cut short, of a mother and friend violently torn from the world.

Melissa's husband, Jolyan Silvera, has confessed to killing her. He, however, said he was provoked, and has pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter. He has also pleaded guilty to using a firearm to commit an offence. Both crimes carry maximum sentences of life imprisonment. He is scheduled to be sentenced in the Gun Court tomorrow.

One of Melissa's best friends, Melhanie Spence-Karen, told THE STAR that she had written a message on the grave.

"I wrote 'love always,' with the heart. The boy wrote as well," shared Spence-Karen, who participated in a protest on Tuesday, demanding justice for her fallen friend.

She admitted that she has not been able to return to the grave-site since the funeral on January 12, 2024.

"I am so traumatised," Spence-Karen said. "I wasn't here when it happened, but I was here the next day, and I stayed in that house with them - those three boys especially - because they are my everything," she said removing her dark sunglasses revealing teary eyes.
