Chinese businessman robbed of $300,000
A Chinese businessman is hoping that justice will be served he was robbed of more than $300,000 in the downtown Kingston business district earlier this year.
"He wants the money back and for the person responsible to be held accountable," a prosecutor shared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
The accused, Kemar Gowe and Jevanee Vernon were arrested and charged with larceny from the person following the theft on May 31. Gowe was admonished and discharged from the matter after the prosecutor told Parish Judge Venise Blackstock- Murray that the Crown was no longer pursuing the matter against him.
Vernon, however, pleaded guilty to the crime and has made restitution of $300,000. He is to be sentenced on October 30, as the judge requested a social enquiry report and his antecedents before she imposed sentence. He was remanded in custody until then.
