August 16, 2023

A high-ranking official of the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) has been taken into police custody on reasonable suspicion of engaging in sexual misconduct with a minor.

The STAR understands the official was taken from his office at a fire station in Montego Bay, St James in the presence of his staff on Tuesday night.

The individual has undergone questioning in the company of his lawyer, while a team of experienced detectives continues to delve into other aspects of the ongoing investigation.

Law enforcement agencies are steadfastly pursuing suspects believed to be violating regulations, irrespective of their background or affiliation.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vernon Ellis, overseeing the Area One Police Division, emphasised the police force's resolute commitment to safeguarding minors.

"We are committed to taking all necessary precautions to protect minors in our community. Given the increased access during school breaks, we are taking decisive action against those who might pose a risk to our youth. Our investigators are both capable and determined," stated Ellis told The STAR this morning.
