Beckles shortlisted for PFA honour
LONDON, England (CMC):
Grenada international Omar Beckles is among several players shortlisted for League Two's Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Players' Player of the Year award.
The 31-year-old, a centre-back with League Two title-winning Leyton Orient last season, has been joined by midfielder Paul Smyth and goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux, both featuring for Orient in that campaign.
Smyth has since joined Queens Park Rangers, while Vigouroux has signed for newly promoted Premiership outfit Burnley.
Northampton forward Sam Hoskins, Salford midfielder Elliot Watt and Bradford striker Andy Cook have also been shortlisted.
Beckles arrived at Brisbane Road in 2021 on a two-year deal, scoring six times in nearly 50 appearances across all competitions as Orient finished 13th.
He was again pivotal last season, helping the southeast London Orient to win the league by six points, while conceding the fewest goals.
Beckles, who has been capped seven times by Grenada, signed a new two-year deal with Orient in June.
In a career that has spanned nearly 14 years, he has played for Millwall, Aldershot Town, Accrington Stanley, Shrewsbury Town and Crewe Alexandra.
Beckles was elected to head the PFA earlier this year.
