A senior parish judge decided to recluse herself from a matter before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday, as she noted that she was familiar with the defendant.

"I would have to set this matter before my sister judge. I am familiar with this defendant from another court," Senior Parish Judge Paula Blake-Powell noted.

The defendant, Andreano James, appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court for unlawful possession of property and being armed with an offensive weapon. He has not yet entered a plea.

The court heard that James, 18, had previously received a correctional order. However, it is not clear if the senior jurist handed down that sentence.

James was remanded in custody until September 7, when he is expected to be arraigned on a charge of housebreaking. He is to also settle his legal representation.
