Man allegedly pulls knife on cop over parking spot
A Corporate Area man allegedly attacked a policewoman with a kitchen knife, in the presence of her children.
The accused, Leroy Kelly, denied the charge of assault at common law when he was arraigned in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday. Allegations state that on July 18 at 1:50 p.m., the complainant was seeking to park her vehicle at a property in West Parade, Kingston, when a verbal altercation started between herself and Kelly.
Kelly, it is alleged, uttered threatening words, "Aye gal, continue chat mek me stab yuh up," while walking towards the complainant's car armed with a brown handle kitchen knife.
The complainant shared that as Kelly advanced towards her, she started to wind up her car windows. It is alleged that the kitchen knife was caught in the window and fell in her car.
When he was arrested and charged, Kelly, when cautioned, allegedly said, "Me never touch her."
Kelly continued to deny the allegations when he was grilled several times by Parish Judge Carlo Mason.
"Mr Kelly, for the last time, did you have a knife?" the judge quizzed repeatedly, which was denied by Kelly.
"No, Your Honour," Kelly said firmly.
"Your Honour, my three children, ages 14, eight and two, were in the car along with my sister-in-law," the complainant shared with the court.
"Well there are statements of at least three witnesses. Seems like this will be going to trial," Judge Mason indicated.
The matter was adjourned for file completion and is to be mentioned on September 18.
