Father cuts daughter’s neck with knife
A middle-aged man who cut his daughter's neck with a knife was ordered to attend drug treatment by a senior parish judge on Thursday.
The decision was met with great emotions from the defendant.
"Me never see this in my wildest imagination that I would be in a court. I feel so embarrassed, so frustrated about the whole thing. I don't want to get too emotional but I will take the counselling," shared defendant Carlos Hunt, who pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding before Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque.
It was shared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court that on August 5, there was an argument between Hunt and his daughter which became physical. Hunt, the court heard, used a knife to cut the complainant on her neck, causing a wound that bled. In Hunt's confession, he told the senior jurist that he has an alcohol addiction.
"You have to now prepare yourself to have a period of detox. You have to condition your mind that you will have no more Guinness or rum or anything. You need help," Cole-Montague indicated. But the judge was troubled to hear that the police allowed Hunt's daughter, who is also the complainant, to act as his surety.
"The police drop the catch on this one. I would not have allowed that to happen. The same complainant is his surety. How could the police have allowed that?" the judge pressed.
Cole-Montaque then made the ruling that Hunt attends the Drug Treatment Court and is to return to court on September 25, when his matter is set for mention.
