Woman jailed after missing court dates

October 26, 2023

A Corporate Area woman who has missed at least three court hearings was remanded in custody by a senior parish judge.

"I need to keep you in a place where I know the police will bring you to court. I can't have you missing court dates, it's showing to be a bad pattern," Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque reasoned. Her comments were directed to Keisha McLean after prosecutors expressed concern that the woman had developed a habit for missing her court dates in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.

"Your Honour, Ms McLean is known to miss her court dates and each time she does, she would come to court the next day with an application to vacate the warrant," the prosecutor explained.

McLean, who remained mum when her matter was being mentioned, is before the courts for unlawful wounding, malicious destruction of property, being armed with an offensive weapon, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The matter has been before the court since 2020. It is alleged that McLean was involved in a fight with another female and inflicted several wounds all over the woman's body, using a knife. She is also accused of causing damage to the left front fender, left indicator and left front door of the complainant's vehicle.

"As I am looking through the court sheet, I notice that on September 21, you were before me to vacate warrant. This is a bad pattern, man. I am remanding you in custody," Cole-Montaque said. McLean was remanded in custody until November 8, when her matter is set for mention.
