Curfew launched in Norwood, St James; Mt Salem curfew extended

November 03, 2023

Increased criminal activities in St James have forced the police to launch a curfew in the community of Norwood, while an on-going curfew in Mt Salem has been extended.

The security measure originally launched in Mt Salem on Tuesday of this week, and resulted from a triple shooting on Sunday which lead to tension in the area.

Head of the Zones of Special Operations (ZOSO) for St James, Ainsley McCarthy, explained that Norwood was added after a flare up, where two murders were committed in two weeks.

He expressed concerns related to possible reprisals.

The extension and the newly launched curfew start at 8:00 p.m. this evening, November 3rd, and goes until Sunday, November 5 at 8:00 p.m.
