Family worried about missing teacher
On Monday evening, senior citizen Denise Anglin waited anxiously for her daughter Danielle Anglin, a primary school teacher, to return home from work, but she never did and has not been seen since.
The elderly mother, who shares a 'two peas in a pod' style relationship with her daughter, who works at the St Peter Claver Primary School in Kingston, is now in distress, as she ponders what could have caused her beloved daughter not to return home. Holding on to the verandah rail of her house for support, Anglin was a picture of grief, as with tears forming in her eyes, she spoke of having sleepless nights while pleading for the safe return of her daughter.
"It has been terrible and mi cry man. Last night (Wednesday) was the worst for me and my husband held me and tell mi not to try and break down," said the distraught mother. "My daughter is always with me ... I tell you; she is a good behaving girl."
"My daughter is 29 and she does not have a boyfriend at that age ... that's why I feel it so much ... mi all a wonder if dem rape her. Anybody who have her, just please send her home to us... please. We will do anything just for her to be with us again," she pleaded.
The missing educator is of dark complexion, slim build and about 167 centimetres (5 feet 6 inches) tall. The Hellshire police said Anglin was last seen at her Hellshire home about 5:50 a.m. on the day she went missing. Her mode of dress at the time is unknown.
"She woke up late and I was in between sleep, but I knew she came into the room, and she gave me a ping pong, a pack of gum, and a biscuit and she say, 'Bye mommy'," recalled the mother. "I didn't hear from her through the day but that is not unusual because the school strict so she can't use her phone during work hours. But she normally call me when she is leaving, but she didn't on Monday."
The elderly woman said that when 9 p.m. came and her daughter did not come home, she started getting worried. She said her phone was out of data, but she managed to send a few 'please call me' texts to relatives in a bid to find out if any of them had seen Danielle. However, no one responded until hours later.
"I was up until about 4 a.m, and I was just so worried because I know something is wrong. Danielle is not the type to stay out. My husband didn't come home that night because he had to work so it was me alone," she said.
The following morning, the concerned mother learned that Danielle did not turn up for work on Monday.
"Mi just feel weak in both my feet. I couldn't cry but I felt weak. Both of us went to get a check-up recently and she got a three-day sick leave and Danielle come home with the leave form and say she not giving it in because is PEP time now and she don't want to miss out," said the mother. "So from I hear she didn't turn up for school I know something wrong."
Leighton Johnson, president of the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA), said the association is aware of the situation and members are praying for the teacher's safe return.
"As an association, we are really concerned about this and we join the appeal for anybody who has seen or know the whereabouts of Miss Anglin to make the report to the nearest police station," said Johnson. "We just want to secure her safe return to her immediate family. We are in contact with the school and the JTA have committed that whatever actions that can be taken to assist in the search for Miss Anglin, we will a part of that."
Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Dannielle Anglin is asked to contact the Hellshire Police Station at 876-952-3572, 119 police emergency number or the nearest police station.
