94% of roads impacted by Hurricane Beryl reopened

The National Works Agency (NWA) says it has reopened some 94 per cent of the roads reported as being rendered impassable due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

Manager Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says the agency has received reports of 476 road sections being impacted.

He says of that number 39 per cent have been fully reopened while another 55 per cent have been reopened to single lane traffic.

Shaw says that some 29 corridors remain impassable with Hanover, Clarendon and St Andrew accounting for the majority. At noon Monday, there were six corridors remaining impassable in each of these parishes.

All roads in six parishes have been reopened fully or to single lane. These parishes are Portland, Westmoreland, Trelawny, St Ann, Kingston and St Mary.

Shaw says that the NWA teams, while continuing to be impacted by connectivity issues, are making good progress with the work across the island.

He says the teams are working to reopen all roads in the parishes of St Thomas, St Catherine, Manchester, St Elizabeth and St James.
