Man arrested after allegedly attempting to steal fan
The Trelawny police have arrested a man who reportedly attempted to steal a standing fan from a house in the parish on Emancipation Day.
He has been identified as 48-year-old Barrington Brown of Black Hill district in Portland.
Brown was charged with burglary and assault at common law after he allegedly broke into a residence in Duncan’s Hill, Trelawny, about 2:30 a.m. on August 1.
According to a report from the Falmouth police, Brown used a metal object to pry open a door to the house and removed a fan.
The occupants of the house were reportedly awakened by a noise and went to investigate.
Brown reportedly fled the house but, according to the police, the fan's electrical cord got tangled in the security grille.
Brown reportedly fled the scene on foot without the item.
The police were called in and during a search of the area, Brown was reportedly discovered hiding at a nearby premises, clutching a knife in his hand.
He was subdued, arrested and later charged.
