13 years and still no car - Man yet to receive vehicle he paid for in 2011
After paying almost $1 million 13 years ago for the purchase of a motor vehicle, a Corporate Area man is seeking to have the monies returned or the vehicle keys handed over to him.
That is the position of a complainant against the accused, Andre Poorman, who made his first appearance in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday to answer to two counts of fraudulent conversion. The court heard that in December 2011, the complainant paid more than $900,000 to Poorman for the importation and purchase of a Toyota vehicle. Further allegations are that the complainant migrated, but still kept in contact with Poorman, seeking updates on the purchase. However, to date, neither the monies nor the vehicle have been handed over to the complainant.
Poorman indicated to Parish Judge Tracy-Ann Robinson that he intends to make restitution.
"It would be premature to say," Poorman responded when Robinson quizzed him about how much money will be available for restitution at the next court hearing.
"About $1 million," he said further, noting that it is to be shared between four complainants.
Poorman, who has no legal representation, was remanded in custody until November 15. He was made the subject of a fingerprint order.
