Alleged gunman shot dead in foiled robbery attempt
An investigation has been launched by the St Andrew South police into the fatal shooting of an alleged robber and injury of a man during a failed robbery attempt last night.
Reports are that about 10:30 p.m the man, who is a licensed firearm holder, was driving in Newport West in the parish.
Unknown assailants in another vehicle then allegedly pulled their guns and attempted to rob the man.
The gun owner challenged the thieves and during an exchange one of the robbers and the man were hit.
Both were assisted to the Kingston Public Hospital where the unidentified man was pronounced dead.
The Hunts Bay Criminal Investigation Branch is conducting a probe into the matter.
