CCTV exposes Spanish Town security guard accused of stealing $460,000
A security guard from Spanish Town, St Catherine is now at the centre of a theft probe after investigators say he helped himself to nearly half a million dollars that he was paid to protect.
Thirty-eight-year-old Ricardo Nicholas, a security guard of Dela-Vega City, has been charged with larceny as a servant following the brazen theft of $460,000 from a cash delivery on Saturday, January 3.
According to reports from the Central police, about 7:54 p.m., Nicholas was on duty and assigned to receive money bags delivered by a cash-in-transit team. However, investigators say that instead of safeguarding the funds, Nicholas allegedly used a sharp instrument to puncture one of the sealed bags and removed cash amounting to $460,000.
Police say the alleged theft was caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV), and further investigations, supported by witness statements, pointed directly to Nicholas.
He was subsequently arrested and charged in relation to the incident. His court date is now being finalised as investigators continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the alleged inside job.
