Cop trying to stop taxi mowed down by driver
A traffic stop in May Pen, Clarendon, turned chaotic on Wednesday afternoon when a taxi operator allegedly ploughed into a policeman, sending him to hospital and landing the driver in police custody.
Reports are that shortly after 2:00 p.m., the officer, who was on duty with two colleagues along Church Street, signalled a taxi to stop. As the policeman stepped out to halt the vehicle, he was allegedly struck by the cab.
The injured officer was rushed to hospital, where he remains under medical care. His condition has not been disclosed.
The taxi operator was taken into police custody as investigators work to piece together exactly what led to the shocking incident.
