Alleged child molester faints in court
A man charged with sexually molesting two young girls created a stir in the St Catherine Parish Court on Wednesday after he appeared to faint moments after he was denied bail.
Thirty six year old Ricardo Brown collapsed inside the prisoners dock after the presiding judge refused his bail application. Court officials and police personnel had to lift and usher him out of the courtroom and into a holding cell.
Brown is facing multiple charges including rape, grievous sexual assault, unlawful detention with intent to commit grievous sexual assault and forcible abduction.
When he appeared in court, the clerk of court opposed bail, citing Brown as a flight risk. Shortly after the ruling, Brown suddenly fell to the floor in the prisoner's dock, causing a stir among those inside the courtroom. Several police personnel were needed to remove him as he resisted being taken away.
According to allegations, about noon on May 7, 2025, the complainants, ages 10 and nine, were picked up by Brown, who allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted them.
The matter was reported to the Old Harbour police, who launched an investigation. Investigators said Brown later fled St Catherine to Yallahs in St Thomas, where he was eventually held and returned to the parish. He was later arrested and charged.
Brown, who has a previous conviction for a sex crime, has been in custody since his arrest.
