$800,000 bail for man accused of rape
A 36-year-old man accused of rape was granted bail of $800,000 with surety when he appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday.
Attorney Richard Lynch made a successful bail application when he told the court that the act was consensual and the report was steeped in malice.
Parish Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle granted the request on condition that he keep away from the complainant and keep the peace.
The man, who is from the parish, is scheduled to reappear in court on January 14, 2025.
Allegations are that the complainant, who had a relationship with the accused, was sexually assaulted by him on November 18.
A police report was filed by the woman.
An investigation was launched which led to the man being arrested and charged with rape.
