Reggae Sumfest mourns loss of Robert Russell
The Reggae Sumfest community is mourning the loss of its co-founder and industry legend, Robert Russell.
In a video message shared on its Instagram page, Sumfest reflected on the happy moments spent with Russell, celebrating with his family and friends, including Sumfest CEO Joe Bogdanovich and renowned dancehall artist Shenseea.
Russell, who was affectionately known by many names such as 'Uncle Ducksie,' 'Fada Russ,' and 'Big Russ,' passed away yesterday in the hospital after months of illness.
Sumfest paid tribute to Russell, describing him as a true stalwart of the Jamaican music and tourism industries.
"Robert’s visionary leadership and unwavering passion helped shape many things, including the Sumfest brand... leaving an indelible mark on reggae music, the entertainment fraternity, Jamaica’s tourism sector, and our culture as a whole," the post read.
The company also noted that Russell’s passing has left an "immeasurable" void, and his contributions have made the Reggae Sumfest and Downsound Entertainment families "undoubtedly better."
Sumfest expressed its deep sadness, saying that Russell would be profoundly missed, and extended condolences to his friends and family.
"Fly high, Big Russ. We love you and will miss you."
