52 guns found in barrel seized at Kingston wharf last week

It is revealed that 52 firearms were found hidden in five barrels what were discovered at the Kingston wharf last week in a shipment from the United States labelled groceries and clothing.

The Jamaica Customs Agency said that there were 50 assorted pistols in the shipment, two rifles, 2,992 assorted rounds of ammunition and 61 assorted magazines.

Other illegal items in the shipment were one rifle barrel, two rifle buttstock, one rifle grip, one rifle iron front sight post, 12 rifle accessories, four pistol slides and three pistol lower receivers.

Jamaica Customs stated that during routine operations last Wednesday, its officers detected anomalies in shipments being imported from the US.

Reports are that the matter is being probed by the Firearm Narcotics Investigations Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
