Manchester man on five murder charges - Aunt, elderly landlord among his alleged victims
Toby Clarke, a Manchester man who has been in custody for allegedly murdering his elderly landlord in July 2022, has been charged with four additional counts of murder.
The police said that one of the cases involves his 64-year-old aunt, Doreen Hamilton, who was murdered in 2017.
Hamilton and her son were killed at their home on Cedar Garden Road in Mandeville. The police said that after seven years, detectives from the Area 3 Major Investigations Division made a breakthrough in November 2024 when they uncovered a crucial piece of evidence that linked Clarke to the murders.
It is alleged that about 12:05 a.m. on September 2, 2017, residents heard gunshots and summoned the police. On the arrival of the police, Hamilton and her 38-year-old son, Oraine Hamilton, were found inside their home with gunshot wounds.
Clarke was in November charged with murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony.
In addition to being charged with the murder of his landlord, his aunt and cousin, the 32-year-old Chudleigh resident has been booked for another double murder in the parish. The police believe that while in lockup, Clarke contracted the services of 23-year-old Jowayne Williams, otherwise called 'Dangles', a farmer of Pike district in Christiana, and others to murder Taniesha Burton and Wilford Mallison.
Burton, otherwise called 'Browning', a businesswoman of Big Wood in Craighead, Manchester, and 74-year-old Wilford Mallison, otherwise called 'Danny', were killed in Craighead on July 13. Reports from the Mandeville police are that about 10:10 p.m., Burton, Mallison, and another man were at a bar when armed men entered and opened gunfire, hitting all three persons. The gunmen then escaped on foot.
One of the injured persons alerted residents, who called the police. On the arrival of the police, Burton and Mallison were seen lying on the ground in the bar, both with gunshot wounds to the body. They were rushed to the hospital where they were pronounced dead. The other man was treated and released.
Based on information gathered during the investigation, Williams was arrested and charged in relation to the incident. Clarke has also been charged with two counts of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, using a firearm to commit a felony, and wounding with intent.
