Kevaughn Goldson, 23, a Jamaican student and athlete, was stabbed to death in Jefferson City, Missouri, in the United States, on Tuesday, with his girlfriend taken into custody in connection with the killing, media reports have revealed.

Goldson, a senior at Lincoln University, was a celebrated sprinter and footballer during his years at Kingston College (KC). His girlfriend, Denita Jackson, also a sprinter at the university, has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action, prosecutors disclosed.

Reports indicate that Goldson and Jackson had a history of domestic violence incidents. Court documents cited by ABC17 News reveal that Jackson told police she believed Goldson was having an affair with one of her roommates. She allegedly returned home from work early, heard a conversation coming from the roommate's room, and used a hairclip to unlock the door. She reportedly found Goldson and the roommate fully dressed on the bed.

According to Jackson's account, a tussle ensued after she jumped onto the bed and grabbed Goldson by the shirt. Police say Goldson allegedly kicked Jackson, causing her to fall off the bed, before he got on top of her and began choking her. Jackson then reportedly grabbed a knife from under the roommate's bed and stabbed Goldson in the back and chest.

Goldson was rushed to a local hospital and later airlifted to another facility, where he died during surgery.

KC administrators and sporting staff have expressed shock and grief over the death of the former student athlete. KC Principal Dave Myrie described Goldson's death as "madness" and said the staff were devastated.

"He was a well-known youngster. He played football and later track and field, did well academically, and had quite a future ahead of him. He was training very hard, pursuing his degree, and then this happened," Myrie said, adding that the school community is reaching out to Goldson's family to provide support.

One of Goldson's former coaches at KC also expressed disbelief over the tragedy, noting that he was still in shock over the loss of the talented athlete.

The STAR was unable to reach members of Goldson's family as of late yesterday afternoon.
