Burton impresses at all comers meet

Camperdown High School's Rushelle Burton, known for her hurdling ability, was the best female junior sprinter at the final Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association All Comers meet at the National Stadium on Sunday.

Among the juniors, Burton won her section of the girls' 100 metres in 11.93 seconds, getting the better of St Jago High's Kimone Shaw, who was second in 11.97 seconds, the same time done by her teammate, Shanice Reid, who won section one.

G.C. Foster College's Andre Clarke had the best performance on the day among male athletes as he produced a season best 49.64 seconds to capture the 400m hurdles.

Clarke finished ahead of Ricardo Cunningham, second in 49.66 seconds, with Marzel Miller of G.C. Foster College third in 51.92.

Tyquendo Tracey was best among the male sprinters as he had the fastest time in the 100m, where he stopped the clock at 10.40 seconds to get the better of G.C. Foster College Everton Clarke, second in 10.43.

Saaid Hassan of the High Performance Centre won his heat in 10.45 seconds to be the third quickest over the distance.

After being consistent in the 46 seconds all season in the 400m, World Championships representative Rusheen McDonald showed slight improvement after winning his heat in the one-lap event in 45.95 seconds for the fastest time overall.

Former St Jago High standout Nathon Allen finished second in 46.09, with Jonia McDonald of the University of Technology third in 46.64.

Among the juniors, there were respectable times for Calabar High's Anthony Carpenter, Dejour Russell, and Fabian Hewitt.

Carpenter won his 400m heat in 47.72, while his teammate, Russell, captured the 110 metres hurdles in 13.66 seconds, and Hewitt won the 100m in 10.62.
