Mount Pleasant, Racing settle for draw
Mount Pleasant Football Academy's assistant coach, Davion Ferguson, said they need to make better use of chances, following their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football clash at Drax Hall Sports Complex on Sunday night.
The St Ann team, which played virtually the entire contest with 10 players, showed resilience to secure a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Racing United FC.
Warner Brown was sent to the locker in the eighth minute after receiving a red card.
"I think credit must be given to the players. I think they played a spirited game. The commitment was top notch and I think at the end of the day, a point is not a bad result in the game," Ferguson said, noting the plan initially was to be aggressive.
"Even at 10 versus 11, we still had good opportunities. I think we had the best two opportunities in the second half, which we didn't make use of. If you don't score, you don't win," added Ferguson.
Mount Pleasant maintained second place in the standings with 57 points, five behind leaders Montego Bay United, who were held to a 2-2 draw by fourth-place Portmore United (52). Racing United, meanwhile, remain third on 55 points.
With another draw, Racing United lead the league with 16.
Meanwhile, Anthony Patrick, coach of Racing United, said the team started well but struggled to capitalise on opportunities, especially after their opponents went down to 10 men
"We started the game very well, but after Mount Pleasant went down to 10 men I think we got little bit carried away, you know, and people started to take extra touches off the ball. We didn't get to punish them," Patrick said.
"It was definitely a very good game. Mount Pleasant really played well also. I will have to say good point shared," added Patrick.
In another game, MBU's Kimani Arbouine's goal in the ninth minute, followed by Okeemo Jones' strike in the 51st minute, gave MoBay United a 2-0 lead.
However, MBU's Davonnie Burton scored an own goal at the 81st minute to put Portmore on the scoring sheet, before Portmore's Peter McGregor equalised in the 88th to secure the draw.
