VCB still motivated after tough 2016
ZURICH, Switzerland:
At the back-end of one of her toughest seasons, veteran Jamaican sprinter Veronica Campbell-Brown says she is still motivated and remains hungry for more success, while offering a few words of advice to Jamaica's newest sprinting star Elaine Thompson.
The two will meet in the 200m at today's Weltklasse 2016 Zurich Diamond League meet at the Letzigrund Stadium in Switzerland and while reflecting on her own season.
international stardom
Campbell-Brown, who first represented Jamaica at the senior international level at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000, where she won silver as a member of Jamaica's 4x100m relay team as an 18 year-old, knows all about the demands of international stardom.
Thompson became the first woman in 28 years to win 100m and 200m gold at the Olympics and with personal best times of 10.70 and 21.66 in the 100m and 200m, is already considered one of the best ever, after just two seasons at the international level.
"She (Thompson) is in good hands, she just have to stay focused, stay humble, stay hungry and keep working hard and see what God has in store for her," Campbell-Brown said yesterday.
"We are always learning, you never stop learning unless you are no longer existing and my setbacks always motivate me," said Campbell-Brown.
"I have had a lot of struggles this season but I really don't like to put my struggles out there."
"I just keep focusing on working hard. I am still passionate about the sport and that's the most important thing. I still feel strong and I still feel fast and as young as ever and so I am excited to see what God has in store for me over the next couple seasons," added Campbell-Brown.
Campbell-Brown was a member of Jamaica's silver medal winning 4x100m relay team at the Olympic Games.
Campbell-Brown has won three of her eight 200m races this season and arrived in Zurich with a season best of 22.29, which she ran twice this year.
