Whitmore talks going well - Wint

Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) general secretary, Dalton Wint, said that despite not agreeing terms on a new contract, national senior men's football team head coach Theodore Tappa Whitmore is still the body's choice to continue in the role.

Whitmore was in charge of the Reggae Boyz in their 2-2 draw with Korea Republic on Tuesday, but there were questions about whether he was still disgruntled about not getting what he considers satisfactory contract terms, as he was not seen on the bench during the game. However, Wint refuted these claims, saying that Whitmore was missing for most of the game because he came down with the flu.

But Wint said that he expects a deal to be confirmed shortly as talks are still ongoing.

GOOD DIALOGUE

"That's a conversation that is out there but we plan to continue because we're at a point now where we have good dialogue with Whitmore," he said.

Wint continued that Whitmore is seen by the JFF as the right man for the job and that would not have changed based on Tuesday's result. The team, which featured many debutants, was considered by many to have earned a respectable 2-2 draw with opponents preparing for this summer's World Cup.

"We're not watching the result, you know, because Tappa doesn't need to prove anything to us," Wint explained. "He's our coach and we want to keep him in the programme. As a matter of fact, Tappa has not yet signed a new contract but Tappa is employed to us, the JFF. He is the coach, that has not changed."
