Reggae Boyz forward Cory Burke, who recently signed a new deal with MLS club Philadelphia Union, said he was pleased to have made such important contributions in the club's historic Supporters Shield title victory this season but that he is eager for more game time.

Burke was unable to play for the Union from May 2019 to October of this year because of visa issues he encountered.

However, his impact on his return was immediate. The 27-year-old scored two goals in six matches, and those two strikes were crucial for the team to claim its first ever silverware.

His first strike against the Chicago Fire came after three matches and gave the team a 2-1 win after they were tied 1-1.

SECOND GOAL

He also netted an insurance goal to secure a 2-0 win and the Supporters Shield in the final game of the regular season against New England Revolution.

"I feel proud I was able to score two very important goals for the club to help them win their first title.

"I score my first goal coming off the bench and that goal gave them the win.

"Then in the last game, I came on and scored the second goal that help the team win the title. It was a great feeling to be back at the club I want to be winning titles," he said.

But because of the limited time he spent with the team this season, he says he doesn't feel very much a part of that success and he will be working over the preseason to regain his starting role in the team.

"The two games that I went on in and scored I feel very good about that as they were two very important goals.

"But I was not pleased with the playing time this season. I did not feel as if I was really a part of the team like that because of the short amount of time I spend this season," he added.

The player, who signed a new deal with the club at the end of the season, revealed the new contract was always in the pipelines but that the club needed time to meet the demands of his agent.

"The deal was already on the table before everything that happened. In 2018 my agents were in negotiations with the club but they did not have enough on the table for us to sign a deal with what the club was offering.

"So they put off the deal and the club traded some players in order to offer a better deal," he explained.
