Jamaican defender Damion Lowe was named in the Egyptian Premier League team of the week after rave reviews from his debut match in Al Ittihad's opening game of the season at the weekend.

The 27-year-old was outstanding in Al Ittihad's 2-1 win over Pyramids on Saturday, getting his career off to the best possible start in the north African country.

The Jamaican international is also extremely pleased with the recognition he has received on debut and intends to keep that trend going.

"It is good to be recognised in Egypt as one of the best defenders so far, and I just hope to keep that trend going," he said.

"For me, it's about getting into the routine of being in top form at all times and being the best defender on the pitch, game in game out, and let my quality speak for itself."

From what Lowe has seen so far from coach Talaat Youssef, he is confident that both he and the club can maintain their good start to the season.

"The coach is a legend here," Lowe said. "He seems to be very good preparing us on the training pitch for games.

Good-quality players

"The league is different but there are good-quality players. I don't think any team is a weak team here because they import a lot of players and the Egyptian players are good. We just have to just keep this momentum going."

Lowe, who signed for Al Ittihad late last month, said his teammates have made him and Jamaican teammate Romario Williams, who joined the team at the same time, feel welcomed.

"The players have welcomed us and everything is going well and I am settling in, for the most part. I am just trying to focus now on getting acclimatised to everything," he said.

Lowe was out of contract since May after his two-year stint with Norwegian club IK Start ended.

He had a brief loan spell with Phoenix Rising in the United Soccer League Championship in the United States, which ended in November, before signing for the Alexandria-based Al Ittihad on November 28. Lowe has played 22 times for Jamaica.
