Edwin’s Kennedy targets senior teams after Class One 400m boys’ win

E dwin Allen's Delano Kennedy targets Jamaica's senior teams later this year after copping the Class One boys' 400 metres at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys at Girls' Championships at the National Stadium last night.
Kennedy clocked 45.27 seconds to win the one-lap event ahead of Jamaica College's (JC) Malique Smith-Band, who did 45.74 and St Elizabeth Technical High's (STETHS) Jasauna Dennis, who ended in 45.87.
According to Kennedy, he executed his game plan for the victory, which he was elated about.
"I am feeling really good to come and win the gold medal. I just did want (to) reach at the 300 metres first," the reticent Kennedy said.
Quizzed about his memory from Edwin Allen and short-term plans, Kennedy said: "I will remember that I win 2023 Champs. I want to make the senior team, and I will be great. I think it is just a little more speed to get out faster to improve."
Kennedy tracked the field in the 400 metres before collaring his rivals at the 300 metres mark before powering to an easy victory.
Meanwhile, Calabar's Christopher Ellis produced a splendid effort to capture the gold medal in the Class Three boys' 400 metres with 50.49 seconds clocking as the Kingston College (KC) pair of Jordan Rehedul with 50.67 and Eshanee Porter with 50.69 had to settle for the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
In the final of the Class Two boys' 400 metres, KC's Tahj-Marques White produced a new personal best of 47.73 seconds to finish ahead of JC's Omary Robinson, who also did a new personal best with 48.49 as Calabar's Nickecoy Bramwell got the bronze in 48.88.
For the relays, KC's powerful Class One leads all qualifiers to the final of the 4x100 metres after winning heat one of the preliminaries in 40.68 seconds, which narrowly beat St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), who also qualified for the final in a time of 40.69 to win heat two.
In Class Two, Calabar had the preliminary round best in 41.03 seconds, with KC's Class Three having the fastest qualifying time in 44.32.
