Richie Rich a firm banker on Sunday
TO avoid falling at the first hurdle in hunt of Sunday's Reggae 6 mandatory payout, start strong with four selections in the opening event, a spotty five-furlong straight race for long-in-the-tooth horses accustomed to running no more than four furlongs.
Stick with a quartet that has shown speed, consistently or not. At the $180,000 claiming level, form counts for nothing, making any of SCHLESINGER, NEZ PERCE, GALWAY BAY and BEAUTIFUL BRAN potential winners of the opening scrap.
However, MILLINIUM STAR is quite deserving of being banked in the second event following her last two efforts, losing by a nose to fast-closing ANOTHER WAVE on June 8 at six furlongs. Outfinished by WHO DONEIT in her previous race, MILLINIUM STAR cannot be faulted for fitness, which should serve her well against the same cast.
Take no such chances in the third with five-year-old and older runners, who routinely exchange placings in defeat. The inconsistency of POWER OF FAITH, STORM A COME, AKA STORM and GREAT TRICK could give way to improved ANIKA BELLE upstaging them all.
Play the speed game in the fourth at five furlongs straight. QUEEN ZAN and ROCKET LILY are quickest but MANACO has back class and could spring to life.
RICHIE RICH is a firm banker in the fifth but spread bets in the sixth, using AWESOME ANTHONY, STRIKE SMART, CALIFORNIA GOLD and dangerous HUNTSMAN to cover any possibility that might emerge in a collapsing pace.
