Reggae 6 a must-wager on Saturday
SATURDAY's Reggae 6 mandatory-payout jackpot could swell to $26 million after closing at $12.5 million last Sunday, making the sixth anniversary of the popular bet a must-wager to start the day.
Bankers will be key to snag the mandatory payout, hence tread with caution in the opening event by using out-of-class course specialists, EAGLE ONE and EMPEROROFTHECATS, on all bets at five furlongs straight among $550,000 claimers.
United States-bred EAGLE ONE, a former overnight-allowance speedster, has been enjoying low-hanging fruit, beating $550,000 claimers twice in two months, doing enough to win in deceptively slow times.
EMPEROROFTHECATS' placing, next-to-last in a $1 million claiming event out the straight on August 24, should not be taken on face value, eased entering the final furlong while in contention from post-position one.
BROMPTON ALEX could be a skilful banker for the brave of heart in the second with Tevin Foster, who looks set to have a big day in his battle with Raddesh Roman atop the jockeys' standings. Second run out of Phillip Lee's barn since moving from Ryan Darby, BROMPTON ALEX gets the nod after a vastly improved effort to finish ahead of old rival AKA STORM, runner-up to ANOTHER WAVE on September 14 at five furlongs straight.
However, never chance two-year-olds as bankers, more so first time on the round course for all, including MISS MONEYPENNY, who won Race 1, Series 1, of the BGLC-TOBA Millionaires Series, at three furlongs straight.
Press the 'all' button on the five-horse field of two-year-olds in the third. The foreigners might not have fancied the blink sprint for Race 1, Series 2, of the BGLC-TOBA Millionaires Series won by LOVISA at four furlongs straight.
DRONE STRIKE won ridiculously easy at four furlongs straight on last but there is no guarantee he will perform likewise on the round course, more so at seven furlongs. Carry MILLINIUM STAR and EMPRESS NAKELIA with DRONE STRIKE as a trio in the fourth.
SMART TRICK appears a safe banker with Foster astride to make all in the fifth at six furlongs but approach the Reggae 6 closer with caution. VELICKI VICKI, TUTS, READMYLIPS and PRINCESS RIA should all be carried at the minimum trip in the sixth.
