Bank on Solace, American Aviator
TAKE no chance with Saturday's Reggae 6 opener, a $200,000 claiming event at four furlongs straight, a blink sprint for golden-agers, the most dangerous cocktail known to bettors.
Spread bets far and wide in the opener to ensure a solid start to the Reggae 6, which has SOLACE and imported debutant, AMERICAN AVIATOR, as logical bankers in the second and third events.
Though SCHLESINGER and MATRIARCH are the speed horses to be on in the first, both are drawn on the far side out the straight chute, making them susceptible to any of their peers, who might be patched up for the day and breaking from the faster stands' side.
SOLACE stands out in the second at seven furlongs, returning as a four-year-old maiden this season after consecutive runner-up efforts against RACK DEM and MILA KAY to whom she lost by a neck on December 21, returning off a six-month lay-up.
Jason DaCosta debuts another piece from his American arsenal, three-year-old AMERICAN AVIATOR, who introduced himself to stablemate RICORICORICO with a blazing 1:06.4 for five and a half furlongs last Saturday morning.
TOSS-UP
The fourth should be a toss-up between MIDNIGHT GALAXY and LUCY IN THE SKY, horses who have traded places in defeats. LUCY IN THE SKY is the better stayer, suggesting a mile should be to her advantage as opposed to MIDNIGHT GALAXY, whose sire, Midnight Hawk, tends to throw sprinters.
However, MIDNIGHT GALAXY reporting at 111lb with claiming rider Tajay Suckoo, visor fitted and tongue-tie removed, could very well use his eight-pound advantage to steal a march on the filly down the backstretch.
The fifth and sixth races are not to be taken lightly, both requiring at least four selections to corner suspect claimers in the first instance and five-year-olds who are yet to win two races in the closer.
Last Saturday, JUSTIN BIGTIME's change of equipment in the second event, tongue-tiefitted, after finishing eighth of 14 two weeks prior, made the difference between winning or losing the Reggae 6, which returned a decent $187,673 to 30 surviving tickets.
JUSTIN BIGTIME returned with tongue-tie fitted to turn tables on four rivals - CRYPTOGIRL, J SPEITH,
IMMEASURABLE JOY and 4-5 favourite PRINCESS AMAHLE - who had all finished ahead of him on January 18 in a five-and-a-half furlong event won by MAGNIFICENT FORCE.
