Violette AC still top of Concacaf club rankings
MIAMI, Florida (CMC):
While the heavyweights of Liga MX and MLS trade blows in the headlines, the latest Concacaf Club Rankings update brings reassuring news for the Caribbean football faithful.
Concacaf released its April rankings yesterday, and Haitian side Violette AC (1,083 points) continues to rule the Caribbean roost, holding firmly in first place among all clubs from the region.
Hot on their heels, but unable to close the gap, are the reigning Concacaf Caribbean Cup champions, Mount Pleasant FA (1,065 points) of Jamaica.
The rest of the Caribbean's top five showed the same stability, with Cibao FC (1,057) of the Dominican Republic, Trinidad's Defence Force FC (1,051), and SV Robinhood (1,046) of Suriname rounding out an unchanged top five.
While the Caribbean pecking order stayed static, the same cannot be said for the overall confederation rankings, where a major power shift occurred ahead of the Champions Cup Quarterfinals.
Current titleholders Cruz Azul (1,271) have reclaimed the No. 1 overall spot, overtaking defending Liga MX champions Deportivo Toluca FC (1,265).
However, the biggest surge came from Nashville SC (1,254), which rocketed up six places to third overall after pulling off the upset of the tournament so far, knocking out MLS Cup champions Inter Miami CF on away goals.
That result sent Inter Miami (1,238) tumbling four places to seventh.
