Is he too old for me, pastor?

Dear Pastor:

I am currently dating a 33-year-old man. I am 20 years old. He is fine in every way, except that he is 13 years older than I am. I am taller than he is. Do you think that he is too old for me?

S.L.

Dear S.L.:

Some people say that age is just a number. That is not true. Age must be taken into consideration when people are interested in each other.

However, there are men who would be considered senior citizens, who are in good health. These men should not be discouraged from marrying women who are much younger than they are if the women truly love them and would be faithful to them.

On the other hand, there are young women who do not truly love these older men. What they love is what the men have. They love their money, their houses, and other possessions. And by marrying these men, they feel that they would automatically be partakers of their wealth.

Now, I don't know what has caused you to love this man. I would say to you that your height ought not to be a big issue. You don't have to wear high-heel shoes when both of you are going out together. Some men wouldn't even care whether their wives are much taller than they are. That is something for the both of you to talk about.

If you feel uncomfortable about his age, both of you should go see a family counsellor and discuss your insecurities.
