My boss wants to marry me
Dear Pastor,
I am writing to ask you to help me make up my mind. I was working with a man and his wife. Both of them were senior citizens. The woman died a year and a half ago, and their children live abroad. Their father is not interested in going back to live abroad. They have pleaded with him, but he said he wants to stay in Jamaica. He is doing better in this climate. They asked me if I wanted to continue to work with them, and I said yes because this man and his wife have treated me well.
His wife and I are the same size, so her daughter told me to take all the clothes I want. She did not wear anything cheap. What they paid me was better than what others have paid me in the past. It was above average, and I am getting more now.
I go to church, but this man does not go to church. He still drives, and he takes me to assist him wherever he wants to do business. He told me that he loves me, and he wants us to get married. There was no form of intimacy between us while his wife was alive. I didn't see that coming, Pastor. I have always conducted myself as an employee should. I have one son, and he is 19 years old. He can come and even stay at the house, and this man would sit and talk to him about life and encourage him.
I told a friend from my church that this man has proposed to me, and she told me I shouldn't marry him because he is a sinner and people are going to say that I was with him a long time ago. After she said that to me, I told this man that we should wait for another year. Nothing has changed between the both of us.
I just want to know how you feel about this. I don't have anything except some money in the bank. I have not even mentioned this to my son as yet. After I hear from you, I will talk to him, so please don't have me waiting.
K.B.
Dear K.B.,
You say that this man is in love with you, but you have not said that you are in love with him. So, I must ask the question. Are you in love with this man? You say he doesn't attend church. Is that the main problem? You attend church, but are you a Christian? One can attend church and still not consider oneself a Christian.
Your friend told you not to marry him because he is not a believer. What does your heart say about this relationship? You have nothing, no property, nothing. This man has everything to offer you. I am not going to tell you to marry him or not to marry him. But remember, offers like these don't come often. The Bible says: "Two can't walk together unless they be agreed."
If you believe that you love this man and the two of you can get along well, and that you are not going to go against what the Bible says, then you can make your decision. But it is totally up to you.
Pastor
