He doesn’t want to marry me

Dear Pastor,

I am 19 years old and my boyfriend is three years older than I am. I want us to get married because I don't know when I am going to die, and I also want to get baptised.

I love having sex with him, and so if I get baptised and he doesn't marry me, then I won't be able to have intercourse. He says he will not get married until he is 25 years old, but I suggested to him that we can do a private wedding and then later in life, we can do a big wedding and invite everyone.

Pastor, I'm in love with this man and the only thing that will make me happy right now is for him to marry me. Please, pray for us. I look forward to your reply.

You ought not to try to force this man to marry you. And you are fooling yourself by believing that if he doesn't marry you, you will not be happy. Happiness is a choice. You have to make yourself happy. Right now, this man told you that he is not going to get married until he is 25. That is his way of telling you that he is not very much interested in marrying you. So, if you want to get married, you should move on.

You say you want to get baptised and serve the Lord. No man should prevent a woman from serving God. To be absolutely frank with you, what this man loves to get from you is your body. He loves the sex, and you loves the sex, too. You haven't said whether or not you have a profession.

get a career

You want to be a Christian, and that is commendable, but what you also should endeavour to do is to get yourself a career, and a good one, too. Without having a good career, when hard time comes you may suffer.

If you were to get a career, men would be interested in staying with you, because both of you can work together and pay all the bills and support your children. So, right now, I am telling you, don't push this man to marry you. Think about yourself. If you are not in school, try to go to school and get yourself a profession. Nobody has ever died from not having sex. God will take care of you if you trust him.
