We should always help each other

February 10, 2020

Dear Pastor,

Out of pride, fear or lack of confidence, some people will never ask for the help they need, even when they are in a desperate situation.

Instead, they suffer and struggle in silence, trying to do everything alone, even when they know it may result in failure or loss.

In Jamaica, we have a saying that goes, "One hand can't clap" and another one that says "Many hands make light work." There is a lot of truth to these very practical statements.

We have to be pragmatic about life. Pride often leads to destruction, and fear takes us nowhere. We should never shy away from or resist the urge to seek help because of these feelings.

We all need someone. We are social beings. Even though we often feel that people think we owe them whenever they do us a favour, it is not always the case.

There are persons who assist others out of a pure and genuine heart. We should strive to be like those persons, even as we strive to benefit from the goodness of those persons.

The only one who always has a pure motive is God himself, and He is the one to rely on without reservation.

A.E.

Dear A.E.,

Well said. I wish there were more people who would help those who are in need, for whatever reason the need might arise.

Indeed, there are many people who are struggling in silence and if they would only learn to tell others that they are in need of help, they would receive help.

The Bible says " We are our brothers' keeper ". we should go and rescue, so to speak, those who are suffering. As I respond to your comments, I think of so many senior citizens who are suffering. They can do with some help.

You may say that you do not have much to give, but sometimes a word of comfort is sufficient. We should not be too busy to help each other.
