Trying to remain a virgin until I get married

February 25, 2020

Dear Pastor,

I am a 27-year-old woman and a Christian. I have never been in a relationship. I am still a virgin. I have invested in my education as I am from a poor background.

I live by the motto that nothing could stop me from making my mother proud. So even before I became a Christian, I never considered having a boyfriend, even though most of my classmates would have gone through many relationships by the time we got to age 18.

I look nice, and dress attractively in hair extensions, make-up and so on, but I am never approached by Christian men.

Guys who find interest in me are non-Christians, the party-going types. I always find some way of intentionally making them lose interest in me.

The problem is that men like these do not believe in sexual purity, and I fear not getting married by age 30. I fear dating a non-believer because I don't want to indulge in sin.

I won't lie, sometimes I want to break loose and have some fun, as my friends are always encouraging me to do.

But I have an intense fear of germs, so that alone would stop me from indulging in any ungodly behaviour. I want to be in love; I feel like a lonely workaholic. Your advice will be appreciated.

Dear T.A.,

You say that only non-Christian men approach you for dates. I could only say to you that that would change in God's own time. I would also encourage you to remain faithful to God and true to your convictions.

What a wonderful gift you would give to your husband if you were to remain a virgin. God is able to keep you as a good Christian woman. I will be praying for you.

And I hope that a man who is looking for a good Christian woman would want to meet with you after reading your letter. Be assured of my prayers.
